Entropy: The First Law of Jessica's Hairdynamics

If you only take one thing away from this blog, I would most sincerely recomend you become BFFs with the idea of entropy.
Entropy is not only an excellent Bad Religion song, it is an essential concept that applies to all things! Hair is most definitely not excluded. The law of entropy includes two basic ideas...
First, it states that all things tend to move from order to chaos. Therefore we can conclude that:
A [chaos] will ALWAYS come before B [order]
I have included a diagram from my notes for clarification.

..and the second idea states thet all things tend towards uniformity. This concept is important because it explains why your hair changes constantly even though you may not be changing any of your haircare habits. I realize that you may be feeling like I am insane. I assure you, my friends I am not! Consider a simple example:
Hair contains on average contains 8-14% water, and the variation depends on the hairs environment. If your hair is hanging out in a dry environment, the air will actually begin to draw the moisture out of your hair in an attempt to make the percentage of water in each environment equal. On the other hand if your hair is in an environment that has a higher percentage of water your hair will begin to draw moisture out of the air in an attempt to become uniform. And this, my friends, results in all the problems associated with humidity!
So in conclusion, managing your hair is about knowing what factors are effecting your hair and knowing how to keep them in balance.
We will always be engaged in the struggle against unruly hair. Do not worry! My goal with this blog is to dispel any hair missunderstandings and equip you with the information you need to make peace with your hair.
